Writing Your Practice combines the practices of asana and writing through a series of intense and exuberant workshops. Each week we will explore a particular philosophical concept through a key deity in the Tantric tradition. Every session will consist of asana, storytelling, writing, and discussion, all designed to unlock and give voice to our creativity. At the end of each workshop, we will have opened our bodies and minds to produce a new piece of writing. All are welcomed- novice writers, seasoned bloggers, occasional journalers, and closet poets. Bring your mat, your notebook or computer, and your willingness to dive into the heart of your self-expression.
Writing Your Practice has been designed specifically as a 3-part series for Virayoga. It is an expansion of Susanna’s 10 week course http://www.yogateachertelesummit.com/writingyourpractice/ taught via teleconference through the yoga teacher telesummit.
March 4 – Finding your Voice
Ganesha sits at the threshold, representing transformation and new beginnings. Choosing to write is stepping through a doorway into a deeper place inside your self. Through an asana practice designed to inspire as well as stabilize and ground, you will investigate your proclivities, passions, and the individual qualities that make you you, then put it into words. Here you will design a writing practice for yourself.
April 1 – Just Write!
Kali is primal and uncensored, the ferocious embrace of every possibility. When you choose to write, you have to open the floodgates. Through a flowing hip-opening asana practice, you will learn techniques for getting unstuck, overcoming your fear of the blank page, and letting your body and words flow with wild creativity and without judgment.
May 6 – Refining Your Practice
Shri means abundance, but also refinement. Once your words are flowing, it’s time to look more closely at your writing style, becoming precise in your language and in your writing structure. Through a playfully precise asana practice of arm balances and inversions, you will cultivate a focused attentiveness that will find its articulate expression in your body and on the page.
Cost: $45/session or 3 classes from 10/20 class series
