Voted “Best Next Generation of Yoga” by New York Magazine in 2005, Shriyoga and Elizabeth have continued to evolve. Offering a fresh perspective which allows both the ancient and esoteric to become modern and real, students are encouraged to cultivate curiosity as they pause, breathe, and deeply listen to what life is revealing right here, right now. Elizabeth, now teaching yoga for over 10 years, has received multiple yoga teaching certifications and studied extensively with master teachers Erich Schiffman, John Friend, Max Strom and Guru Singh. Her on-going studies are primarily with her long-time mentor, meditation master, Sally Kempton, and her main yoga teachers, the legendary Richard Freeman and his wife, Mary Taylor of the Yoga Workshop in Boulder, CO. Elizabeth just completed another 200 hour month long teacher training intensive in Ashtanga Vinyasa with them this past summer of 2011. Also a guest presenter at Kripalu, Elizabeth is a Level 3 Reiki Professional working towards mastership in 2012 with Wendy Miner of Sloane-Kettering’s Integrative Medicine Center. Philanthropically, Elizabeth spearheaded with Elena Brower a successful Give Your Yoga benefit for Women For Women International at Urban Zen in 2010 with plans underway for another in 2012.

She learned to receive her experience as an opportunity to heal her body, mind and heart through the process of yoga. She became a committed student of Anusara in 1999, and was Certified in 2007. Hillary’s teaching style is challenging, empowering and playful. As a longtime student of Dr. Douglas Brooks, Hillary has made five journeys to South India with him to directly experience the teachings. Inspired both by her travels to India and her philosophical studies, Hillary’s photography reflects her passion for yoga, the expression of the heart, and the evocative nature of concealment in all aspects of our lives. She lives in New Jersey with her 16-year old son and dog Gracie.

Allison’s first taste of yoga was at the Crunch Gym in SoHo, mostly because the lengthy class times were appealing to a young lady with time on her hands. But the messages from her teachers there, especially Julie Dohrman, began to shift her from bored to inspired by the greatness of nature. She followed the life-affirming qualities of this yoga to Virayoga, where she completed her first teacher training with Lois Nesbitt. From 2005 on, Allison has created, hosted, taught, nurtured, and never given up on the healing possibilities of Anusara. She is so happy and humbled to serve the kula in New York.

Initially arriving in New York in 1999 to study dance, it wasn’t long before she discovered the freedom and joy yoga can bring to one’s busy life. She has been practicing different styles of yoga for 10 years. Since 2006, she has studied Anusara Yoga extensively and completed over one thousand hours of classes with her gifted teachers. Shoko completed teacher training with Zhenja La Rosa in 2009.

Her class is an informative, respectful, and flowing practice for all levels. By engaging playful and introspective themes, one will learn not only how to more deeply trust and believe in one’s self, but also how to celebrate the ever-deepening possibilities of yoga while always enjoying the moment.

Shoko is deeply grateful to her family & friends and all of her teachers, students and Virayoga staff, especially, Elena Brower, Zhenja La Rosa, Dana Covello, Sharon Kenny, and Eric Stoneberg. She teaches throughout New York City, New Jersey and Japan. www.shokoyoga.com
