One of the most sought after Anusara teachers in New York for her spirited and positive teaching style, Julie teaches Anusara’s Universal Principles of Alignment and the therapeutic aspects of the practice with clear instruction and natural flair for making yoga fun. Julie is known for her ability to make everyone feel welcome and encouraged – from the raw beginner, to the experienced teachers in the room – and creates an environment for everyone to access the yoga practice as a pathway to personal growth. Julie conveys yogic teachings in a real voice from authentic experience, and offers practical uses in every class. She leads classes, workshops, Anusara Yoga Immersions and Teacher Trainings with passion and commitment for the transformational qualities a sustained yoga practice can bring.

Philosophy, mythology and mysticism inform much of Julie’s teaching stemming from a decade of study with excellent scholars and teachers, our Living Masters of yoga. Julie’s practice has been elevated to a deepened awareness through her continued work with Paul Muller-Ortega and Blue Throat Yoga meditation, in addition to Douglas Brooks, Bill Mahoney, Sally Kempton, and apprenticing regularly with Anusara founder John Friend. Dedicated to bringing yoga to as many people that seek it, Julie will continue to learn from her deepening practice of living from the heart.

Her class is an eclectic blend of cerebral, humor, and the synchronization of breath and movement, which is vinyasa. Her students are called upon to use their minds, and then lose them, continuing that dance throughout.

Over the years this has morphed into a blend of a unique and very refined style of Vinyasa yoga called Kula Yoga – as founded by her teacher of 11 years, Schuyler Grant, and an Anusara influence born out of Jillian’s 7 year immersion with Anusara Yoga under the consistent tutelage of Elena Brower. More recently, Jillian continues her studies in Iyengar yoga with Nikki Costello. Expect to see all of these influences incorporated into her class. Deepest gratitude for all her teachers along the way.

She originally came here to dance and choreograph, but her art has since evolved to photography and video performances and installations. Her work is shown internationally.

In 1999 she gave birth to her son Karl. After Ursula explored different styles of Yoga for her own spiritual and physical well being, she did her first teacher training in 2002 and is teaching ever since. In addition to her skills and expertise as a Yoga teacher she is also a Pranayama Healer and certified Qi Gong instructor.

In her classes she brings together the experiences and knowledge of the different parts of her life to inspire her students to find their own unique way of being. Yoga, Breath Healing and Qi Gong accompanied her and gave her strength through all the many changes and challenges in her life. Ursula is deeply thankful for the gift of the Healing Arts and all her teachers on the way to where she is now.

Knowing that each of us has the potential to live a life of transparent truth, wisdom and love, she invites her students into the ever-expanding freedom of moving intentionally from our core. Julia continues to study and deepen her understanding of yoga with her teachers Gurumayi Chidvilasananda, John Friend, Rudrani Farbman, Ross Rayburn, and Amy Matthews.

Her capacity to create this type of experience she attributes to her training with The Process founder International Scherick. The Process is a radical new healing technology that has been described by some as a practical application of the Yoga Sutras. This work, combined with her copious yoga training, has made Shana a very unusual and sought-after teacher. Shana teaches classes and works with private clients in New York City and The Hamptons.

She is grateful to be doing what she loves, living in NYC working as an actor, voiceover artist and yoga teacher. Jessie discovered the practice of yoga while attending an International Theatre Workshop in Amsterdam. What was once a mysterious morning ritual transformed into a deep daily practice that continues to be an adventure. Her love of movement and fascination with physical expression began at an early age, encouraged by years spent training at The Washington School of Ballet. Her exploration of body awareness, conscious breath, and a search for balance and space in the body as well as the mind continued throughout college at NYU Tisch where she double majored in Drama and English & American Literature. Jessie draws inspiration from an eclectic group of teachers (Elena Brower, Lilia Mead, Amy Matthews, Matt Lombardo & Michael Hewett) and styles (Anusara, Ashtanga, Power Flow). Jessie encourages a playful approach to exploring the body and mind, and balancing energy and effort with a sense of lightness and curiosity. www.jessiebarr.com

In the ashram Narween taught Hatha Yoga as her seva and immersed herself in the study of meditation, yoga scripture and Ayurveda. While living in the ashram and suffering from chronic low- back pain Narween was introduced to Pilates and upon returning to the US embarked upon a rigorous apprenticeship with Joseph Pilates’ protégé, Romana Kryzanoswka. Narween teaches both Yoga and Pilates (mat and full apparatus) and endeavors to support her students on their unique journey towards the sublime. She particularly loves the deep practice of Restorative Yoga as well as more vigorous, alignment focused flow yoga-asana styles and her clear, detailed style and playful perspective are offered with enthusiasm and gratitude.

Voted “Best Next Generation of Yoga” by New York Magazine in 2005, Shriyoga and Elizabeth have continued to evolve. Offering a fresh perspective which allows both the ancient and esoteric to become modern and real, students are encouraged to cultivate curiosity as they pause, breathe, and deeply listen to what life is revealing right here, right now. Elizabeth, now teaching yoga for over 10 years, has received multiple yoga teaching certifications and studied extensively with master teachers Erich Schiffman, John Friend, Max Strom and Guru Singh. Her on-going studies are primarily with her long-time mentor, meditation master, Sally Kempton, and her main yoga teachers, the legendary Richard Freeman and his wife, Mary Taylor of the Yoga Workshop in Boulder, CO. Elizabeth just completed another 200 hour month long teacher training intensive in Ashtanga Vinyasa with them this past summer of 2011. Also a guest presenter at Kripalu, Elizabeth is a Level 3 Reiki Professional working towards mastership in 2012 with Wendy Miner of Sloane-Kettering’s Integrative Medicine Center.
